The Chivasso Schools Project dedicated to the raising of children's knowledge and awareness of environmental concerns in primary schools has started on December. The project has involved more than 1.000 children and has includes educational activities during classroom lessons and a theatre performance "00WASTE”. To consolidate and extend information learnt during the theatre performance, a two-hour meeting held by an environment educator was scheduled. In all, 44 meetings were held, totalling 88 teaching hours on Environmental Education.
The activities carried out with the schools have been intended to become an important support in the creation of a new shared awareness about the sustainable management of resources and the no-waste closed-loop approach. The protagonist of the story is 00WASTE, mascot of WastEnd, a young man very conscientious about separate waste collection who discovers that he is a really special agent. The performance was well received by teachers and pupils, thanks to the joy of the songs and the actors' ability to involve children.
In the course of 2015, the activities continued with creative workshops on material reusing aimed at the understanding of the value of waste recovery. The workshop allowed pupils to become not only spectators but also protagonists of the subject. The "00WASTE” comic allowed teachers to continue working autonomously on waste, with the objective of creating virtuous policies for a proper waste management in and out the schools, in pursuit of environmentally sound management policies, in particular concerning recycling and reuse of secondary raw materials.
The goal was to involve local schools ans students, providing them motivations to adopt proper waste management behaviours and the basics to pursue it becoming powerful actors in the environmental improvement process.
